Cappuccino is an Italian style of coffee made from espresso that includes steamed-milk foam on the surface. Cappuccino originated in early 20th century Italy and grew in popularity after WW2 with the introduction of improved espresso machines in cafes and restaurants. Traditionally cappuccino was only made from these professional espresso machines, which are expensive and difficult to operate. Now with the development of home espresso machines that have built in milk-frothers, you can make a cup of cappuccino within minutes from the comfort of your own kitchen.

As these machines are essentially espresso makers with a built in milk-frother, they are not limited to making cups of cappuccino, but can also make espressos, lattes, mochas and even hot chocolate. Espresso machines come in two types, pressure machines and pump machines that produce a difference in coffee quality. The pressure machine is cheaper than the pump machine, and operates through the use of steam which can also be used for frothing. Many coffee enthusiasts complain, however, that the boiling temperature required by these machines to operate makes them too hot to make authentic espresso/cappuccino. The pump machine will produce a better quality espresso or cappuccino, but will also cost more money than the pressure machine.
